Building The American Dream

Short Film – Bilingual Web Content Strategy & Transcreation

Project Type: Documentary website transcreation
Director: Chelsea Hernandez, 8-time Emmy Award winner

I had the privilege of working on Building the American Dream, a powerful short documentary that shines a light on the exploitation of immigrant labor in the U.S. construction industry. My role was to make sure the story resonated just as strongly in Spanish as it did in English.

My role extended beyond translation—I transcreated three key pages for the film’s website:

  • The About page

  • The Resources page

  • The Host a Watch Party page

This work went far beyond basic translation. This was about capturing the tone, emotion, and urgency of the story for a Spanish-speaking audience. It was about capturing the emotional weight, urgency, and authenticity of the story in a way that felt natural and impactful for Spanish-speaking viewers. I worked closely with the film’s outreach team to ensure the content was aligned, accessible, and culturally thoughtful.

Outcome: The Spanish version helped the film reach a wider audience, including immigrant rights organizations, educators, and community leaders across the country. I’m proud to have contributed to a project that speaks to such an important issue.
